How to Check If a Job Offer Is Legit

The fast version. Three quick checks that tell you if an offer is real before you invest a single hour.

Length: 5 minutes For: anyone who just got an offer and wants a fast safety read Updated: 2026-06-24 (v1) Part of: Verify a Job Is Legitimate

"I got an offer. It looks good. How do I know fast if it is real?"

The question to ask before you say yes

The short answer: run three quick checks. The sender's email domain, the company website, and a search of the company name. If all three hold up and nobody is rushing you or asking for money, it is very likely real.

The 60-second checklist

1. Does the email use a real company domain, not a free or misspelled one? 2. Does that domain open a working website that matches the company? 3. Does searching the company name show a real business? Three yes answers, and no pressure to pay or rush, means proceed.

If any check comes back cold, the domain does not load, the company is nowhere online, or someone is pushing you to act fast or send money, stop. A real client survives a 60-second look. A fake one does not.

Practice. Run the 60-second check now.

  • Email uses a real company domain
  • That domain opens a matching, working website
  • A search of the company shows a real business
  • No rush, no secrecy, no money request
