How to Generate Branding Guidelines With ChatGPT

The gap between knowing and doing

The short answer: gather the brand's real words first, then give ChatGPT a clear, specific prompt asking it to draft a brand persona, voice, and key messages from what you provided. The reason it works well is that you study the brand and ask precisely. This is why I also learned a little prompt engineering, so I could communicate with the tool and get really good results.

The four-prompt flow

Goal: a clean brand guide, drafted with AI and corrected by you.

1. Feed it the brand
Paste the about page, a few posts, and product copy. Say: "Here is everything this brand has written."
2. Ask for the persona
"From this, describe the brand persona: personality, values, and how it speaks. Be specific."
3. Ask for voice and messages
"Now give a voice-and-tone guide and three key messages this brand always communicates."
4. Correct it
Compare to the real brand. Tell the tool what is off: "Make the tone warmer, they are not formal." Repeat until it fits.
The one habit that makes it good

Be specific, and give it real material. A vague prompt gives a generic guide. A specific prompt, fed the brand's actual words, gives a guide that fits. The quality of your output follows the quality of your prompt and your input.
