How to Make a Deliverable Easy to Open

Great work behind friction loses its impact. Make it open with one click.

Length: 5 minutes For: anyone whose deliveries feel like a chore to open Updated: 2026-06-24 (v1) Part of: Proactive Progress Updates

"I sent my best work, but the client had to download three files and figure out what was what."

Friction that dims good work

The short answer: deliver so the client can click once and see your work immediately, with no hunting. When I delivered my trial, I did not just attach files and hope. I made it so the client could click and it would open right away. A busy client should never have to work to see your work.

Simple ways to remove friction

Do thisInstead of
A single share link that opens in the browserSeveral files the client must download and open separately
A clear name and a one-line summaryA file named "final-v3-new" with no context
Everything in one organized placePieces scattered across messages and emails
A preview image or first line that impresses on sightA blank-looking attachment that reveals nothing until opened
The rule

The first impression of your work is how easy it is to reach. A client decides how they feel in the first few seconds. One click to something clear and impressive starts that feeling right. Friction starts it wrong, no matter how good the work underneath is.

Practice. Make one delivery effortless.

  • Put the work behind a single, clear share link
  • Named it clearly with a one-line summary
  • Gathered everything in one organized place
  • Tested the link as if I were the client
