Can Talking About AI Help Me Get Hired

Yes, when it is true and it fits the client. Here is why, and the one way it can backfire.

Length: 6 minutes For: anyone unsure whether to bring up AI in interviews Updated: 2026-06-24 (v1) Part of: Talk About AI to Stand Out

"Is talking about AI a real advantage, or just hype I will trip over?"

A healthy, honest doubt

The short answer: yes, it can genuinely help, as it did for me, but only under two conditions. It must be true, and it must fit the client. Talk about AI because you really use and enjoy it, with a client whose world it touches, and it becomes a real advantage.

It helps because it signals three things a client values: you keep up with their world, you love to learn, and you will bring efficiency. For a technology-forward client, that is a strong, honest pitch.

The one way it backfires

Faking it, or forcing it where it does not fit. If you do not really use AI, a follow-up question exposes it fast. And if the client does not care about technology, an AI speech can feel off-topic. Bring it up when it is true and relevant, not as a script for every interview.

Practice. Decide if and how to bring it up.

  • Confirmed I genuinely use and enjoy AI
  • Confirmed this client's world touches technology
  • Prepared a concrete, true example to share
  • Decided to skip it for clients where it does not fit
